From Friction to Fluidity
Two departments. One product. Endless tension. Engineering and creative teams were both critical to innovation — but collaboration was strained, deadlines suffered, and ownership felt territorial.
So instead of another strategy session, we took them far away — into the desert — to rebuild how they work, see, and trust each other.
A Shared Challenge in a Neutral Space
Format: “Desert Synergy Rally” — an offsite simulation of co-creation under pressure
Idea: Build a real solar water system together, using limited materials and full interdependence
Approach: Teams tackled design, execution, and navigation — then reflected in a silent night circle

What the Journey Looked Like
-
Mixed-role teams built modular solar systems with no templates
-
Analog-only navigation across desert checkpoints — no GPS, just maps and instinct
-
Roles were reversed: engineers led brainstorming, creatives made systems work
-
Feedback Fire at sunset: a ritual circle where team members shared anonymous reflections aloud
-
Final stage required teams to operate with shifted leadership — stepping out of comfort zones
Collaboration Without Job Titles
There were no titles, no laptops, no departments. Just people solving problems together under the same sun — and seeing each other in a new light
What Shifted

94% said trust in other departments increased

81% reported they “gained new appreciation” for what the other team does
A shared “Synergy Lab” workspace was launched the following month
“Silent Circles” became a recurring ritual in project debriefs
Why It Worked
Because no amount of slides can replace what happens when people build, lead, and struggle together. Especially when the setting makes it impossible to hide behind roles
